Dear Reader,

I assume since you landed here, you like poetry, or perhaps you are studying poetry and need to find info.

Do you read poetry because you like it or because you have to?

Thank you for visiting.

I most definately like poetry and it is not because of having to do an exam on it. The problem here in Kenya is that most ofaccepted poetry is kind of archaic if I may say so. This is because any new attempts at a new style is frowned upon, because the literary establishment here has its godfathers, so to speak, whose work is it!!!!!!

Dear Maritim,

Your post has given me an idea for an article for which I shall have to do some research: Poetry in Kenya.

If you have some specific sites I should look at, I would be happy to do so.

Thank you so much for responding. Feedback from readers can be very helpful as I try to make my site more user friendly.

Heaney Coffin poem - heartbreaking! No Heaney Discussion?

John Boyle 'Gallowglass Street' - interesting comparison, John goes to pay his respects to a dead young friend and is guilty and embarrassed when the father thinks he was a close friend.

PS - in answer to message ... I read poetry because it cuts straight to the heart in a short and simple way - I also like Burns of course and Yeats, Hugh McDiarmaid, Louis McNeice et al!

There's no discussion of Heaney yet, but you are welcome to start one.
